Job Shadow
My job shadow was on March 15th with Saul Gomez a tire specialist at Carillos tire warehouse in Porterville. I choose to go there because I wanted to learn about tires and rims. I want to learn more about tires and rims because that is one of the only things on a car that I don’t really know about. Being a mechanic you need to know about tires and rims. They are things that im going to have to work on, and if you don’t know what you are doing when you have to do a job on a car then you rally should not do anything to the car. It was a good experience for me because I now know more than I did before I went in to do my job shadow. I learned about lug nut patterns, how to determine what size tires you have, how much air can go in the tire etc. There is still so much more I need to learn. For example, how to use the machine that takes the tire off the rim, and how to put a tire on rim.
While I was there all I did was take the tire off the car, tire and rim, checked if it needed more air or if air was needed to be taken out. I then would put the tire back on the car and do that to all the wheels on the car. Before I put the wheels on the car I would check how much break life they break pads had. If they looked good I would have to do anything, if they looked like they needed to be replaced I would tell the customer and find out if they want to get new ones. If they said no then I would continue on with putting the wheel on the car. If the customer said yes I would change the brake pads to all the calipers.
Before the car has going to be taken off the lift I would check the tire pressure once more just to make sure everything was okay. If anything was wrong I would fix it if I could and if not then I would have another help me do it. I want to become a mechanic and I know the information I learned the day of my job shadow is only the beginning of what else I am to learn in the near future.
